The average life expectancy of the people of Bangladesh has increased. Now the average life expectancy in Bangladesh has increased to become 72 years and 8 months.
The average life expectancy of women is 74.5 years and the average life expectancy of men is 71.2 years. The total population of Bangladesh is 16,910,1000. The literacy rate in the country has increased to 75%. infant and maternal mortality rates have decreased.
These figures have come up in the report of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics 'Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics-2020'. This report was prepared under MSVSB Phase III project.
The report was released at a function held at the Agargaon Statistics Building in Dhaka on Monday. Director General of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Tajul Islam presided over the function.
Notable guests included Planning Minister MA Mannan and Secretary of Statistics and Information Management Department Yamin Chowdhury.
Today, nearly 720 million people worldwide are of age 65 and above; by 2050, their number will increase to be 1.5 billion. Bangladesh has around 15 million people aged 60 and above; by 2050, their number will increase to 36 million, that is 22% of the total population, this means that for every five Bangladeshis, one will be a senior citizen.
