UN Doctors Abandon Haiti Victims

UN Doctors Abandon Haiti VictimsCNN reported yesterday that the United Nations ordered all its doctors, nurses and all other UN staff to leave their emergency care duty stations in Port au Prince, one of the hardest hit areas by Haiti’s earthquake, that UN decision lead to abandoning thousands of the earthquake victims including countless numbers of the critically wounded and numerous victims who had major surgeries.

Instead of mobilizing the United Nations Blue Helmets, the UN uniformed forces, to provide security in and around the emergency care stations, the United Nations cited security concerns as the reason to abandon Haiti earthquake victims.

CNN reported “Belgian Chief Coordinator Geert Gijs, a doctor who was at the hospital with 60 Belgian medical personnel, said it was his decision to pull the team out for the night. Gijs said he requested U.N. security personnel to staff the hospital overnight, but was told that peacekeepers would only be able to evacuate the team.”  CNN video shows that the only medical staff left to care for Haiti victims was the CNN team.

The video below shows some of the rescue and recovery operations in Haiti.

Amid the confusion and devastation in Haiti, the UN is reporting that the victims of Haiti earthquake include the Representative of the UN Secretary General for Haiti and many other UN staff who gave their lives in the line of duty. It is with deep sadness that we pay tribute to those heroes.

  1. Hello Everybody

Words like global warming are generally too scientific to participate in – however, an earthquake shaking an entire country into disaster cannot be disregarded as another statistic. We’re talking about people, just like you and me.

Please help the victims to Haiti & Chile
